Transformation of a high-order edge dislocation to optical vortices (spiral dislocations)

نویسندگان

چکیده

We theoretically show that an astigmatic transformation of nth-order edge dislocation (a zero-intensity straight line) produces n optical elliptical vortices (spiral dislocations) with unit topological charge at the double focal distance from cylindrical lens, located on a line perpendicular to dislocation, points whose coordinates are roots Hermite polynomial. The orbital angular momentum is proportional order n.

Optical vortices generated by dislocations in a cholesteric liquid crystal.

We report the observation of optical vortices in a laser beam propagating through the stripe pattern of a cholesteric liquid crystal. The liquid crystal is confined in a cell with homogeneous boundary conditions and forms a diffraction phase grating. Optical vortices are produced by edge dislocations of the cholesteric grating. The vortices show up as spots of zero light intensity in the diffra...

Decay of High Order Optical Vortices in Anisotropic Nonlinear Optical Media

Vortical excitations with quantized circulation appear in superfluids, superconductors, and nonlinear optics in the presence of a repulsive or self-defocusing nonlinearity. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic nonlinearity has been used extensively to describe vortex solitons in two transverse dimensions, as was done first in the context of vortex lines in superfluids by Ginzburg and P...

A nonsingular solution of the edge dislocation in the gauge theory of dislocations

A (linear) nonsingular solution for the edge dislocation in the translational gauge theory of defects is presented. The stress function method is used and a modified stress function is obtained. All field quantities are globally defined and the solution agrees with the classical solution for the edge dislocation in the far field. The components of the stress, strain, distortion and displacement...

Generation of higher-order optical vortices by a dielectric wedge.

Diffraction of a Gaussian beam with a system of successively located optical wedges is considered. It is shown that the system is able to form higher-order optical vortices.

Dual-mode spiral vortices.

We show that spiral vortices in oscillatory systems can lose stability to secondary modes to form dual-mode spiral vortices. The secondary modes grow at the vortex core where the oscillation amplitude vanishes but are nonlinearly damped by the oscillatory mode away from the core. Gradients of the oscillation phase, induced by the hosted secondary mode, can lead to additional hosting events that...
